Part B

Gardening Around the World Leah Fifer & Charlotte Remington Students will use this map to explore Kalamazoo, Michigan, and the city in California where our 5th grade pen pal class is located. Students will write students from California who are learning about gardening, but have very different ways. Students will use the map to explore the reasons why these methods could be so different. Students will be able to change the map to satellite view. Students will answer questions in a journal. Questions include: A. What features does the city in California have that make their gardening conditions so different? B. When you turn on satellite view what differences do you see in the two cities? C. How might California’s vast amount of water supply, being that it is on a coast, aid in gardening vegetables? D. What kinds of predictions can we make about gardening in general in California based on its location in the country and what we know about it’s climate?
